Founder, Leyna Allred grew up in rural Northern California and was perpetually digging in the mud, climbing trees, and imagining living off the land. With this penchant for natural living as kindling, an interest in the medicinal qualities of plants was ignited and she bought every herbal book she could find, completely engrossed in the simple recipes for liver tonics, healing ointments, and cleansing teas.

In 2013 she discovered the power of herbs and botanicals, simultaneously becoming aware of the toxic nature of the beauty industry. URB APOTHECARY (pronounced "herb") sprang out of a passion project and has blossomed into Leyna's vision for bringing the healing power of plants into daily beauty and grooming rituals, reconnecting individuals to their own natural beauty and while being mindful of their environmental impact. Every product is intentionally made in her studio in Sacramento, CA and she places the highest importance on sourcing materials from only the purest quality fair-trade, organic, and local suppliers, ensuring that each product is not only improving the life of the customer but also being socioeconomically conscious.

Urb's core ethos is to source as locally, organically, ethically, and as potent as possible. They have been so incredibly fortunate to have found many small herb farms that share this philosophy, not only throughout the US but also right here in Sacramento. Often by sourcing from small businesses the cost goes up but it is absolutely true that the quality is exponentially higher and that shows in their products.

They also work incredibly hard to reduce their plastic footprint. their current pumps and mist sprayers are about 80% aluminum and the mask sample envelopes are 100% biodegradable and the labels on them are made from hops! Outer cartons are used to protect the oils from light but this allows them to eliminate plastic shrink wrap. They pack orders with unbleached, recyclable kraft paper, corrugated cardboard padding, biodegradable packing peanuts...as the demand for plastic-free or plastic reduction increases they continue to explore new options for further reducing their footprint.

Every product is made in-house by their very small team and they pour their hearts into every batch. These are made with no small amount of love and joy and it is their deepest hope that you feel this and the healing properties of their plant-based skin and body care.
